Career in Dog Training
Considering installing a dog electric fence? Keeping
your dog on your property where it belongs generally
means building a fence. This is an expensive
investment in your setting most likely you will have to
apply for expensive building permits. However if you
love your dog, have spent money and resources in
training it may be good investment. Letting your dog
out in the yard  and knowing her will be there when
come to let him in the house gives you peace of mind.
As an alternative you can install a
dog electric fence
that is designed to keep your best friend at home
without all the expense of a physical fence.

All
electric dog fences use a buried wire that is located
along the outside of the area that you want to confine
your dog to. This buried wire acts as an antennae that
is attached to the fences base unit or transmitter. The
transmitter produces radio frequency that are picked
up by the receiver on the dogs collar. There are two
different dog electric fence designs.
Electric dog fences
that use electric stimulation work by giving your dog a
warning tone as it approaches the location of the
buried wire. If the dog continues to approach the buried
wire it will receive an electronic correction. A second
type
dog electric fence also uses a warning tone as the
dog approaches the wired but then uses a spray of
citronella to correct the dog. In either case your dog will
have to be trained to properly interact with electric
dog
fence
s.

Your dog will need to be conditioned and trained before
the
dog electric fences become effective at keeping
your dog safe at home. This training normally takes
about 30 days to accomplish if your train your dog for
about 45 minutes each day. Depending on the
personality of your dog it may even take longer to
complete this critical training.
Electric dog fences do
not always work with every dog. It should be noted that
the fence systems that use the citronella spray have a
much higher failure rate compared to those that use an
electronic correction. In addition a dog can also
condition themselves to the correction of both systems
by quickly running through the correction zone of the
fence. It is critical that the initial training be done
thoroughly or your investment into the
electric dog
fence
will be wasted. If you are having problems then it
would be wise to consult with a
career dog training
professional that has experience with electric dog
fences.

Dog electric fences are obviously not as effective as a
physical fence at protecting your dog and keeping it
where it belongs. In addition even if your dog is
restrained by the
electric dog fence it does not keep
stray dogs or other animals from entering the
containment area and attacking your dog. A few years
back a timber wolf killed a friends black Labrador
retriever in Northern Michigan while it was controlled
by a
dog electric fence. Obviously a physical fence
would have done a better job of protecting his prize
hunting dog. Never the less
electric dog fences are
very popular with many dog owners.
